Myths & Legends

Myths and legends are so often spoken of together in the same breath that many may find the two indistinguishable. For the purposes of our archives, we regard myths to be the sacred stories of a people which detail their deities, creation stories, and the like which science may dispute.

Legends, by contrast, involve people and places which science concedes may have existed in some form but whose nature may have become embellished over the years and retellings.

Some examples:

Myth: The earth and heavens were created when Marduk slayed Tiamat, the mother of the gods, and broke Her body into pieces.

Legend: King Arthur was the high king of England and established there his capital, Camelot.
